BUILDING THE DREAM OF HOME OWNERSHIP
Kaka’ako & Waterfront, Hawaii
Construction Cranes peppers Honolulu’s skyline as the Kaka’ako urban redevelopment changes lives across our urban landscape. For those ready to move into high rise living our residential housing boom offers many new places to call home.
Although interest rates are expected the rise, so does our local and nation economic well-being and demand for housing should remain red hot. With the wreckage of 2007’s burst housing bubble fading Kaka’ako has embarked on a 20 years redevelopment plan for serious residential growth.
Across the island, housing developments both large and small are moving forward, from posh high rises on Waikiki’s Luxury Row, to low-rise condominiums in Kailua. And let’s not forget about the 11,750 unit mini-city named Hoopili under development in the Ewa Gentry area. Then there’s Kaka’ako, where more than 30 condominium buildings are planned or underway.
Exciting things are happening in Kaka’ako. Walk the streets and you’ll see the neighborhood is awash in redevelopment. Centrally located along Ala Moana Boulevard and minutes from downtown Honolulu, Kaka’ako is redeveloping the neighborhood from the ground up with a strong influence based on local art and culture, which will turn an already thriving neighborhood into Honolulu’s social epicenter.
Kamehameha Schools has planned a mixed-use, mixed-income neighborhood featuring a wide range of housing including both low and high-rise towers with green spaces and networked walking paths, coupled with it own unique retail experiences.
Redevelopment is already underway with the recent completion of converting Six-Eighty Ala Moana from an office building to loft-style apartments; the announcement of A&B’s mixed-use project, The Collection, on Block E; and SALT at Our Kaka’ako. With their completion the end result will be Hawaii’s first urban mixed community that will come to define Hawaii’s urban-island lifestyle.
